About Vin DiPaola
Vin DiPaola was one of the first graphic designers in the United States to recognize the power of Apple Macintosh technology for publishing. He is credited with being the first to produce a full-color catalog with digital technology from start to finish. Over the years, he has developed a strong but independent working relationship with Apple Computer. They often seek his advice, use him as a consultant to others and send him software and hardware for evaluation. Today he is a much sought after speaker in the fields of digital publishing, prepress and image manipulation. He tours extensively, speaking at seminars and contributing to workshops and has taught photography and graphic design at the university level.
From 1993 to 1997, Vin DiPaola was Vice President of Technology at Gamma One, a visual communications company in North Haven, Connecticut, USA. He pushed the company’s technology to it’s utmost limit. DiPaola propelled Gamma One beyond any such trite descriptor as “state-of-the-art.” Furthermore, he helped Gamma One's customers push their own production departments to maximum capacity. Those enlisting his services included Victoria’s Secret Catalog, PepsiCo, Readers Digest, The Topps Company, Clifford and Wills, Hanover House, Grolier, Bloomingdales by Mail, Toys R Us, Ryan Partnership, Scholatic Books, and many others. Gamma One became an established leader in digital production, digital photography, multimedia authoring and graphics applications for telecommunications.
DiPaola comes from a graphic arts and photography background of 30 years' experience. DiPaola founded and operated a digital publishing and prepress consultancy called DiPaola Associates. The company specialized in configuring and integrating electronic production.
Prior to the digital revolution, DiPaola had his own graphic arts studio for design and photography. Clients included Perrier, Olgivy and Mather, General Electric, Stanley Tools, IBM and Toyota.
Vin has traveled extensively. He spent ten years in the Far East, studying eastern teachings and meditation techniques, managing a print shop, doing social work and working as a photographer throughout the Far East. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and affectionately known as the graphic industry’s technology buddha.
DiPaola’s degree work was done in art history, specializing in the art of India and China. He holds honors from Alpha Phi Kappa National Honor Society. He lives with his wife and 2 daughters in Connecticut. His hobbies include work, talking about work and answering his e-mail. Flying airplanes and scuba diving with large animals are his passions.
